What do you think of the obsessive nature of present Celebrity culture?

Personally, I think it's a terrible culture and yes, it is utter garbage. I believe it spells the wrong message too; the majority of schoolkids these days are saying they want to be a film star, or a pop singer when they leave school! How on earth do they think they are going to achieve it, just walk into it? And yet the culture is accepted as if becoming a celebrity is something that is easy to do. I understand that kids these days need escapism, but they confuse escapism with reality and spend time mimicking cultural morons. The worst thing is, they treat them as heroes - they need to understand that the only heroes are those fighting for their nation in strange places around the world or people that battle terrible illnesses. A lot of celebrities are talented people, but certainly don't deserve to be feted in the way that they are held in almost awe these days.
